That annoying pinch inside your shoulder blade 😫

You know what I’m talking about right? It’s that pinching feeling just inside your shoulder blade that grabs when you turn your head, or maybe when you look down.

It seems to begin for no reason, and then lasts for days or weeks! So annoying!

This is such a common issue but oddly doesn't have a proper name. It is essentially a joint pain from your upper back where the back of the rib connects to your spine. This is caused by tightness in muscles at the front of your rib cage and tightness in the back extensor muscles; they team up and limit the movement of your upper spine. Loosening these muscles with physio, massage, and stretching, combined with awareness around how to avoid them tightening up again is the quickest way out of this nightmare.

Have a go stretching out the front with a cobra pose (yoga) or swan (Pilates), really focus on letting the front of your body lengthen and stretch with some deep breaths. Then loosen up the back extensor muscles with a foam roller or massage ball, you will have to work the whole length from neck to pelvis.

If either of these self-treatments helped, try focusing on keep that muscle relaxed over the next day and your pinching will settle.

If you’re struggling with that pinch inside your shoulder blade (someone needs to name this 😆), give us a call, we’d love to help 🙂
