The Thoracic Ring Approach™

ConnectTherapy™ and the Thoracic Ring Approach™ form a major part of how we work. Both concepts were developed by Dr LJ Lee from her ground-breaking research. Read below, or check out her website to find out more: ljlee.ca

ConnectTherapy

ConnectTherapy is a framework for physiotherapy to assess and treat you as an entire person. Traditional physio looks at a knee injury as just a knee, and a shoulder as just a shoulder. But, this outdated approach misses the big picture.

Dr LJ Lee, a Canadian physiotherapist developed a systematic approach to assess an entire person, as they move, to understand all of the factors leading to your pain.

This method allows us to understand the reason for your pain. As a result, we can not only relieve your pain, but resolve the problem that caused it in the first place.

The Thoracic Ring Approach

Traditionally, the thoracic spine and ribcage was considered to be a stiff structure. In fact, the thoracic spine and rib cage is a very mobile structure, and as a result of LJ’s research, we now have a much greater understanding of the biomechanics of the thoracic spine and rib cage.

One significant step was to define the Thoracic Ring as the functional unit of the thorax. A Thoracic Ring moves as a team, and the thorax is comprised of a series of “rings”, each moving independently and collectively, within the thorax.

The Thoracic Ring Approach gives us an understanding of how your thoracic spine should move; a system to assess movement; and an approach to treat dysfunction, restoring the thorax to a state of efficient and effective movement.
