High vs low impact exercise

Do you avoid high-impact exercise?

Have you injured yourself doing high-impact exercise? Or have you been told to avoid impact activities?

High impact activities are things that include running and jumping, and are often avoided to reduce injury risk, especially as people age.

Did you know, impact exercise is great for bone density, muscle and tendon strength, and cardiovascular health

Low impact exercise includes activities like swimming, cycling, and rowing.

Low impact exercise is usually less strenuous for our joints, so can be a good option for recovery, following an injury, or if you have osteoarthritis. It is also a great choice if you simply prefer these activities! However, high-impact exercise does not need to be avoided, and with the many benefits, it should be considered at all ages.

As with most things, best results are most likely to come from a variety of different types of activity. If you’re interested in improving bone density, muscle and tendon strength, or improving cardiovascular fitness, consider which high impact exercises you might enjoy!

If you want to enjoy the benefits of high-impact exercise, with the guidance of a physiotherapist, give us a call, we’d love to help 🙂.
